EBARA CORPORATION
EBARA CORPORATION (“EBARA”) held pumps seminars from August 24 to 31, at Bangkok Thailand. This was the 27th time EBARA held seminars in cooperation with Asian Institute of Technology (AIT). A total of 52 participants, mainly engineers, attended from eight countries, Thailand, Vietnam, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Laos, Nepal, Philippines, Sri Lanka.
At the seminar on the theme of pump technology for the water supply system, we held lectures on determining the specifications of intake pumps in water treatment plants, water hammer prevention, and energy-saving operations of pumps, and also undertook an inspection tour of a water treatment plant/drainage pumping station. An engineer from Nepal who participated for the first time said that the lecture on water hammer prevention was very useful. In Nepal, which is located high above sea level, pumps with a high total pump head are needed for the delivery and distribution of water, and in general, because pressure fluctuations in the piping are high for pumps with a high total pump head, the water hammer phenomenon* is said to be likely to occur.
EBARA has continued to deepen its relationships around the world through the provision of technical guidance and other forms of international cooperation. Since the launch of the EBARA Hatakeyama Memorial Fund in 1989, it has organized more than 260 seminars at different locations around the world, welcoming upwards of 12,000 participants. This year, EBARA is set to give five seminars.
EBARA will continue to contribute to the development of Southeast Asian countries not only by offering pumps and other products and services, but through technical seminars and other international cooperation activities.
Water hammer phenomenon At the start/stop of pump operation (in particular when the pump stops suddenly as a result of a power failure, for example), and when valves open and close, the velocity of the water filled in the pipeline changes suddenly causing an abrupt change in water pressure. This phenomenon is called “water hammer.” The water hammer phenomenon results in damage to pipework and valves.
