Water for desert regions
Can we deliver water to the desert? Transferring 0.01% of the water available to humans on earth at will
The water that people can use in their daily life accounts for only approximately 0.01%

Earth is called the Planet of Water. Approximately 70% of the surface is covered with water, totaling about 1.4 billion km3. However, most of the water cannot be used for industry or daily life. Approximately 97.5% of the earth's water is seawater, and only about 2.5% is freshwater. Of these, the water that people can use in their daily life, excluding ice in the North and South Poles and groundwater, is only about 0.01% of the total water, even if all rivers, lakes and swamps are added together.
We cannot live without water, despite this small amount of water can actually be used. For this reason, various problems concerning water as a resource continue to arise around the world.
Global water imbalance and population growth
Today, more than 2.5 billion people, including those living in Africa and Asia, live in arid regions where securing sufficient water is an urgent need for agriculture and other basic industries. There is an imbalance between countries with plenty of water and very little water, and between the periods with plenty of water and with very little water. In some areas, water scarcity depends on the location and season.
In addition to this global water imbalance, the ever-increasing number of people who need water is also another major factor in water scarcity. In November 2023, the United Nations announced that the world's population has reached 8 billion. If there are more people in areas that have barely managed to secure enough water, it will become difficult to live there. Some estimates suggest that 5 billion people worldwide, or approximately 1 in 2 people, will suffer from water shortage by 2050 due to global warming and population growth.
Creating a future where everyone around the world has access to safe water

Creating a future where everyone has access to water. EBARA CORPORATION is taking on this challenge with water transport equipment, such as pumps, which have been our flagship product since its establishment in 1912.
Based on our technologies that have contributed to water supply, sewage and agricultural water in Japan, we are committed to solve water resource problems by transporting water from the places where water is sufficient to the places where it is not. As long as people are there, EBARA will deliver water, even in the desert. We aim to build a vast water infrastructure.
Even if it requires long-distance water transport that crosses borders, we will develop new pumps to get the job done. While overseas pump users may be customers with values unknown to us, an infrastructure company that has operated primarily in Japan, our response remains the same. EBARA's market-in policy is an expression of our determination to effectively address the land, cultures, climates, and the lives of diverse people all around the world.
